Gold Girls of Lovely Professional University


*Got Gold- Medals & More than One Lac Cash Prize in Kabaddi at 'Mini Punjab Olympic Games'


Women Kabaddi Players of Lovely Professional University scripted a new chapter at Shaheed - e - Azam Bhagat Singh Punjab Games, held at Ludhiana, by winning Gold Medals and cash prize of more than Rs One Lac and thirty three thousand ( Rs 1,33,332/=). Mesmerizing the jam packed spectators at Guru Nanak Dev Stadium, Ludhiana, through their special skills of tackling their opponents; they proved to be the most fit part of their team of District Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (Nawan Shahar). They had been selected through open trials in most transparent manner by the selection committees including the District Sports Officer, District Sports Association and prominent sports persons of the district, belonging to the relevant sports discipline.

On these victorious steps of the promising students, the Pro-Chancellor of the University, Ms Rashmi Mittal said: "This rare achievement would prepare our youth to compete with confidence even at the national and international levels. Undoubtedly, more talented sportspersons can establish themselves through their related techniques. This will also ensure the increase in employment prospects for Government / Semi Government and other top Organizations. Moreover, our university, too, is leaving no stone unturned to nurture, train, and equip budding talent of the students to shape them well to compete in International tournaments, realizing their dynamic dreams. Students should come forward to join sports as a movement."

Two of the Gold-Girls, Sonia and Baljeet Kaur, of the Department of Physical Education of the University, said in a voice: "We will continue striving for our talent to achieve more and more. Success at Mini State Olympic Games has further encouraged us to dream to win Gold Medal at international tournaments one day. Guided well by our coaches at the university we are sure to prove this."

It is worth illustration that 20 districts had proudly descended, on the ground, for Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh Punjab Games holding proudly the flag of their districts. 4300 sportsmen and officials from every nook and corner of the State had participated in these 'Mini Punjab Olympic Games' with each district competing as a separate nation. These covered 11 sports disciplines bifurcated into three different groups.
